Colin Constance is a percussion educator, performer, composer/arranger, and adjudicator based in Denver, CO. He holds an M.M. in Percussion Performance from Colorado State University where he was awarded Outstanding Graduate Music Student. He additionally holds a B.M.E. from the University of Kansas, graduating with Highest Distinction. Past instructors include Dr. Eric Hollenbeck and Mr. Kevin Bobo.
Mr. Constance is currently the Director of Percussion at Bear Creek, Englewood, and Gateway High Schools in the Denver metro area. In addition to these scholastic programs, he also works with an independent Education Program through Denver Percussion. Prior to his current positions, he taught at Lakewood (CO), Conifer (CO), Mountain Range (CO), and Lawrence Free State (KS) High Schools. His ensembles have received numerous honors, including State Championship medals in both marching band and percussion ensemble, as well as invitations to perform at the 2016 Sandy Feldstein National Percussion Festival as well as the 2013 Colorado Music Educators Association Conference. Mr. Constance facilitated the inaugural 2016 Mile High Drum and Percussion Festival at Englewood High School in partnership with Ascend Performing Arts and the Denver Young Artists Orchestra.
At the collegiate level he is currently Assistant Conductor of Athletics Bands at the University of Denver and has previously taught Marching Percussion, Music Theory, Percussion Methods, and Undergraduate Lessons as a GTA at Colorado State. Mr. Constance also writes and arranges percussion solo and ensemble literature, having been performed in Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, and Wyoming.
Mr. Constance is an active performer, having appeared with the Colorado Symphony, National Repertory Orchestra, and many other regional professional symphonies throughout Colorado, Wyoming, and New Mexico. He has also performed as part of the Bravo! Vail and Aspen Summer Music Festivals. As a member of the Colorado State University Percussion Ensemble, he was featured in their 2010 PASIC performance and has performed in masterclasses for Robert Van Sice, Gordon Stout, and Steve Houghton. He can be heard performing on Redline Tango by the University of Kansas Wind Ensemble, the debut album in Naxos’ Wind Band Classics Series. He additionally co-produced and performed on the Dylan Paul Band’s rock/pop albums Sit And Waitand One At A Time, available on iTunes.
